Mission Ministry

Welcome to a place that will give you a variety of ways to serve and to personally strengthen and grow in your Christian journey. Mission is the heart of the church. The church supports individuals, as well as local and world projects in cooperation with other Christians. Be sure and scroll all the way to see all the wonderful things happening at APC!

Any church member can bring an idea or project for consideration to the committee. Come join us in this exciting and rewarding work.

Earth Care Congregation

To become certified as Earth Care Congregations through the Presbyterian Hunger Program, churches take the Earth Care Pledge and complete activities and projects in worship, education, facilities, and outreach. The mission committee provides funding to support APC's Earth Care Team and associated efforts.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace fully believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs.

APC supports SLH's mission that "No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town!", with financial contributions for materials and labor to build bed kits and install them in children's homes and get them off the floor.

KidsHope USA

Kids Hope USA believes that all kids matter to Jesus and that the local church is uniquely called to care for children in their community who would benefit from another caring, reliable relationship. Volunteers mentor children at Oaks Elementary, which is right now the street from APC. In addition to mentoring, APC collects school supplies and hosts an end of the year party for students and mentors. If you are unable to commit to being a mentor, you can always be a prayer partner.

Faith in Practice

Faith In Practice improves the health and wellness of underserved Guatemalans through health-related medical missions, community-based health initiatives, robust partnerships, and education while fostering spirituality and compassion in our patients and volunteers. APC provides financial support to this ministry as well as volunteers who travel to Guatemala to support medical clinics.

Humble Area Assistance Ministries.

HAAM is an interfaith social service organization that connects individuals and families to community resources. APC is a covenant partner meaning we provide financial and volunteer support to HAAM on an annual basis. We regularly collect food and other items to support their work, and many of our members volunteer their time with the organization.

Family Promise of Lake Houston

Family Promise of Lake Houston provides programs and services necessary to address the underlying causes of homelessness and to return our families to a self-sustaining life. They bring together service agencies and local volunteers to provide safe, temporary housing, meals, and support services to homeless families in the Lake Houston area. APC serves as a host church for families participating in Family Promise programming. In addition, we provide financial support as a partnering organization.

Houston International Seafarers' Center

The Houston International Seafarers’ Center is a “home away from home” for seafarers visiting the Port of Houston. The Center exists as the result of a deep desire and ongoing concern within the local maritime industry, followed by active support and involvement of the community and local churches, to provide a safe and welcoming recreational and spiritual environment on land for those who have chosen the sea as their livelihood. APC provides financial support to continue the ministry provided through the Presbytery of New Covenant and collects boxes of various items including toiletries, books, small gifts, and other items to give to seafarers during the Christmas season.

Mission Trips

The mission committee supports mission trips to various locations annually. This October, a group will be traveling to Montreat and Black Mountain, NC to help with recovery from 2024's Hurricane Helene.

Mission Crafters

Our Mission Crafter Artists creatively recycle and upcycle all types of things that otherwise might increase the burden of our landfill. The great news is that the profits from our eager sales (11,754.25 through 2024) go to missions such as the Wounded Warrior Project and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for U.S. Flooding and U.S. Hurricanes.
