Brief History

Atascocita Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) was founded to serve the rapidly growing Lake Houston area, bringing families together in faith, service, and fellowship. Located at 19426 Atasca Oaks Drive, APC has spent decades as a welcoming, community-focused spiritual home for our neighbors in Atascocita and Humble.

Our Journey Through the Decades

1980s — Following preliminary organizing meetings and Bible studies that began in late 1978, APC was officially chartered by the Presbytery of New Covenant on March 2, 1980. As the local community grew, our commitment to families deepened, leading to the establishment of our Creative Learning Center (CLC) in 1987.

1990s — The church secured its permanent location on Atasca Oaks Drive, building initial educational, administrative, and fellowship spaces to accommodate a growing congregation and expanding neighborhood.

2000s — In June 2001, our church community faced a major setback when a devastating fire destroyed our facility. Demonstrating extraordinary resilience and faith, our congregation rallied together, ensuring the Creative Learning Center continued serving local children while laying the groundwork to rebuild. In 2008, Rev. Jacqueline “Jackie” Hannan began her 12-year tenure as pastor, guiding the church into its next era.

2010s — Following a congregation-wide campaign (“Our Journey of Faith”), APC broke ground in 2011 and dedicated a new, permanent sanctuary. This decade marked a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, earning APC official certification as a PC(USA) Earth Care Congregation. Alongside these sustainability efforts, congregational life flourished through creative worship, liturgical arts, mission trips, and expanded fellowship groups.

2020s — Embracing new ways to connect during seasons of transition, APC continues to thrive as a welcoming spiritual home. Under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Wayne Eberly, who began his service in 2023, APC remains committed to thoughtful worship, active service, and genuine connections.
